Your Responsibilities For our Go Green Race
For a maximum Dirty Inspiration we’d like you to join us in offering an eco-friendly Go Green race. To support this process we’ll be executing and asking of you the following:
- Recycle Running Shoes: If you have a pair of old/ or mis-fit running shoes please bring them as a recycle/donation for the Soles4Souls.com shoe drive. We’ll have donation boxes on-hand at the start/finish area in which to place your shoes.
- Carpool: You can use http://my.icarpool.com to connect with others and travel together for Dirt Inspires Womens Trail Half Marathon. Traveling together could mean carpooling, sharing a taxi or even biking together. Please follow the instructions below to look up ridematching options for your trip.

- Register or log in to http://my.icarpool.com.
- Enter your starting address and preferences and save the trip.
- Proceed to find matches. You can send ridematching requests to others through the website.
- Others who match with you may also send you ridematching requests to the event.
- Be sure to log your travel in the trip calendar.
- Bike security: If you travel to the race on bicycle we’ll have a secured area where you can lock your bikes.
- Use Water Bottles: We require that you carry a water bottle that you can refill as needed on the go. We’ll have plenty of fluids as well as volunteers to help you refill your bottles at each aid station. If you do not have a water bottle we will provide them to you in your goodie bag.
- Sleep Green: Whenever you travel to an event, sleep soundly at an eco-hotel. Support companies involved with the Green Hotels Association. For more info go to www.greenhotels.com
- Leave No Trace on our race course: Please run in the middle of the trail. Always pack out your trash to an aid station or the finish line. Bury your human waste as needed on the trail (but carry out the toilet paper!). We recommend bringing along a small amount of toilet paper in a zip lock bag—just in case.
- Recycle: Though we will try and minimize the paper in your goodie bag and at the race start/finish area, please recycle what you don’t need or use. We’ll have recycle bins in the start/finish area. Rather than clutter your goodie bag, we are offering sponsor discounts and coupons via our website. Check the Sponsors page for more info.
- We Recycle Timing Chips: Please turn your timing chip in at the finish line to be used for another event. If you go to a race where the event uses disposable timing chips tell the race director that you would prefer recycled chips. The disposable chips contain a piece of wire that is not recyclable and should be avoided if possible. For large events this can generate a significant amount of non-recyclable waste.
- Gu Stash Your Trash: Bring your used Gel packets to the finish line and place them in our GU Stash Your Trash container. For every 50 packets we collect GU will pledge $5 to the non-profit organization of our choice. www.guenergy.com/about_us/enviro-community_stash-your-trash
- Shop Local: For food, lodging, gear or last minute race needs please support our local retail shops and sponsors.
