Thanks Jeri! So cool to hear about your history in that event as well. Its definitely an icon.
I was very happy to be racing again and feel satisfied with the result. I have nothing to compare my time to so I wasn't focused so much on that. But then I don't focus so much on time as I do the process of the race.
It was pure fun and I'm happy to come back to the sport with such a facinating event!

What a great history meets today story with all the great metaphors (which no other event - well maybe besides the Dipsea -- can do better). I wish I had been there to watch you! I don't event know the results. How did you feel about your time?

BTW, my first Escape was in 1983. No wetsuit swim into Acquatic Park, bike to Mill Valley, then a double Dipsea run. I think i've done some version of the Escape from alcatraz 26 times and I still think it's scarey fun!

All the best and congrats!

Thanks Stacey. I have been lucky in relationships though I like to think I'm just sort of picky :) I respect all of my ex's so much I am still friends with most of them. Its a good feeling and makes sense really. I would date them if they weren't cool to begin with!
Don't be selling your soul any time soon. You are awesome just the way you are for sure.

Dude, I need to meet one of your ex boyfriends. Most of mine are losers that I would be hard pressed to admit I had even dated, much less wax philosophical about former passions.

I love the metaphor and congratulations on getting out there and rocking it. Most of us would sell our souls to the devil to have your "older" body, so you won't get a lot of sympathy here, but this is a very well written, thoughtful post for the more mature athlete. I love the celebration of all the 'spiritual' that changes with age without hating all the 'physical' that changes with age.

Thank you from this (chronologically) mature woman :)
