Headin South

After several initial travel plans went astray for various required reasons, a few friends and I are heading to Mexico to ride our bikes and hang out. Our plan is that we don’t have a totally solid plan. We know that we are going to ride for a week and then meet up with some of my family in Punta Mita to hang in luxury on the beach (one of my clients has gratiously offered his enormous 5 star condo for a few days).

After a week of hard riding – somewhere – we’ll read, surf, snorkle, read, explore the area and generally do what we wish. In short, this is the antithesis of all meticulously planned adventures I undertake and for the most part I’m cool with it.

Do I really wish I were heading off to do extended athletic battle in a far off remote country? You betcha. But I’m seeing this trip as perhaps a symbol of what 2010 could represent to us all – That maybe when life really throws out the tough stuff (like all of 2009), what we really need to do is lighten the burden of what we are used to doing in our lives and allow ourselves to just be in what we are gifted right now.

So instead of the super expensive multi-day race in a remote desert, I lightened the expectation of a performance (and kept my money in the bank) and am opting for much less expensive Mexico and a bit of cycling and surfing with friends. That doesn’t make the journey less than – its just different.

And I don’t know about you, but in this new year, different is looking pretty darn good to me.

Stay tuned and as we hit internet cafe’s I’ll be able to update you on the cast of characters  and our journey.

    Dear Terry

I am very pleased that you are having a good time in my beloved Mexico ( I was born there and now I live in Oxford Uk).
Mexico is the place to slow down and enjoy yourself at a different speed (slow down the mind and just feel yourself to be alive and enjoy a simple life!)

I am truly inspired by you and I am more determined to keep my goal of changing my carrer from being a Spanish teacher for foreigners to be a professional tri-coach and sport psychologist.
I’ve working hard to achieve that for the last 4 years (two more years to go)

As you said, 2010 looks pretty good to me too (also a challenging one academically) .
    !All the best for you!

    Kidest regards!
    Noe
