I have thought a lot about suicide (not for myself, thank god) but because some close friends have considered it and I have lost acquaintances in the community, former schoolmates to it. In fact, it was the suicide attempt and subsequent hospitalization of my then-boyfriend back in 1997 that led me to channel all my emotions from that trauma into triathlon training with you at the first clinic. Americans are scared of death in general, and suicide in particular is a taboo topic. So the more people talk about it, like you have, the better it helps to shine light and give hope to those who are suffering from depression, suicidal thoughts or the loss of a loved one. - Karen Terri,
